Let's just say Carrie's mom hadn't planned on Taylor Swift being blasted on repeat for hours, nine girls singing along while having a fashion show, the water balloon heard round the world, the amount of popcorn and pizza little girls can eat, and the fact that they can stay awake for SO long if you also feed them ice cream. I am glad I made it to this party, because I don't think there will be another one like it. All the girls said it was the best party ever! I know it was the best 8th birthday party I've ever been to in all my 41 years.  

I need to mention, this sweet baby is Dixie, she was in it to win it, and didn't need a baby sitter. She's all girl! Air hockey anyone? The girls managed to take turns playing, and I think this is when it stopped raining, so the water balloon fight could start. 

Very intimidating group! I still can't believe they held still for the photo. :)

And when the water balloon fight was over, they scurried inside (I'm still laughing because these tracks continued into the house.) I managed to miss out on the silly string, only because my camera doesn't like it. 

I saw Po watching her play the piano. :)  Once they were all dry and changed they needed more fuel; ice cream sundaes were on the menu.

Then it was time to go back outside for glow necklaces/rings & sparklers!

As much as they loved the sparklers and glow jewelry, no party is complete without a fashion show. In between outfit changes the sing-a-long with Taylor Swift's 'Bad Blood' was on HEAVY rotation. They changed, and changed, and changed again! Each outfit was FABULOUS, and at one time we all thought there was a large wild cat in the house. RAWR!

I believe I heard the line, "We trashed the place." I had to hold back my laughter. 

I had to call it a night, and I thought everyone was snuggled up and ready for some rest...

...but I was still getting updates from Carrie's mom into the wee hours of the morning, that they were 'still awake'. Ah, to be eight and fueled by pizza, popcorn, ice cream and all those toppings. 

 

 

I can't wait until next year's party, though I feel it will be in a park somewhere, in the middle of the day, with little hope of another large slumber party...

The Duble + Russell wedding at Cloudland Canyon State Park was so beautiful. I am thankful they hired me to be their photographer (there really is no higher compliment, than for someone to hire you as their photographer).

 

We started our day at In the Buff Day Spa, in Chattanooga, TN ( http://inthebuffdayspaandsalon.com/ ) The bride had her hair and makeup done. And the maid of honor/sister of the bride also had her hair done. I thought they both looked beautiful, and I appreciate that the staff/management allowed me to photograph, while they worked. 

 
 
 
From there we went to one of the bridesmaid's houses, so the bride could get ready. I must say it was an amazing location, and I appreciate that I was allowed to photograph there as well. The light in that room was fabulous!
 
 
 
 
 
It was finally time for the reveal/first look photos, and I raced over to Cloudland Canyon to get all set up ( http://www.gastateparks.org/CloudlandCanyon ). Thankfully, my son and his friend helped me do some test shots at the location a few days before, so I was prepared for the sun. On the day of the wedding, I was glad to not see any of the huge ants that had crawled all over us when we did our test shots. I thought the reveal and group shots were great, and I was happy I had taken the time to prepare for the harsh sunlight.

^They do this pose beautifully. 
 
Guests started arriving, so the bride retreated to a cool place, and the groom greeted/seated guests. Just before the ceremony I was able to photograph the father of the bride praying with the bride. That photo received so many comments on my Facebook wall, because it was such a special moment. 
 
 
Time moved very quickly after that, and I can say that at the end of the day I had 3300 photos to sift through and edit.
 
The father of the bride read from the couple's new bible. It was a moving verse, as they had recently lost a patriarch in their family, and it was obvious his love was one that had taught them all to love and value family.
 
 
 
It was a magical day, and I am so happy I was there to capture it all. I should include that I invited one of my former students to come help me as a second shooter, and he did a great job. I also had my son working with me that day, as my bag handler :) I hope they enjoyed seeing what it's like to cover a wedding. They were instrumental in making my day that much easier.

Blake and Blake married at the First Baptist Church in Fort Oglethorpe, GA on Saturday, January 4th 2014. They married at 11 AM and had a breakfast/brunch meal at their reception. The bride was beautiful, and her groom was handsome. Their friends and siblings filled their bridal party, and were a great bunch. I pray Blake and Blake have a long, happy, love filled marriage. I was so overwhelmed when I first received the request I thought it best not to comment on Facebook about it, because I'd be a blubbering mess. That said, when I broke my leg I told my husband, 'yes, I'm still going to do the pictures', he was worried  about me. I told him I'd get there early, photograph the decorations, and then find a comfy place to sit with a great view of the action. It was a great party, and I made it through. I appreciate Jude's family for allowing me to be the one to capture their special moments.

Happy 3rd Birthday Jude!

The house was a hit!!

The banner, which has been at each of Jude's birthday parties, had to make itself known. I think it needs to be included in all of his birthday parties since it's been incorporated in the 1st three.  

There was a short break for snacks.

The party really got pretty festive!!

There were gifts,

and there was cake.

Then there were hugs, 

and then the balloons were finally his!

Jude finally wound down by inspecting his decorations, and playing with his dad and grandpa.

Someone was very worn out,

and someone else has more surprises to come...

 

 I look forward to meeting Jude's little sister :)

I had the young man pictured here in my class for his 7th and 8th grade years. His mom and I have chatted more as moms now that both our boys are in the high school band together (& the indoor drumline :) We managed to have a really fun time on a freezing day. I brought along hand warmers, and that gave everyone a little extra push to make it through.

I met the sweetest little lady recently, and can't wait for her to come back for another visit. Eliza is a doll, and her mommy and daddy love her so much.

She let me hold her, and she smiled. She talked to me; baby sounds of course, but still beautiful sounds. When she was done hanging out with me it was time to go outside, she loves being outside.

One of the cutest things my husband has said to me is, "How do you know how to do that?" I laugh and say, "I use the cook book."

 Here I've got one of my Grammie's glasses holding down the page. I actually have two cook books open (I do a little of each), and you can barely see where I've written in 'whipping cream'. It's fun to have a recipe that nobody else knows (ok, so maybe my mom knows it :).

 

Here the quiche is in the oven.

 We got the new pie plate as a wedding gift from friends. I knew I was going to take pictures so I went with the white one instead of the maroon one (it's mostly for apple pie anyway).

 

A quick picture right out of the oven. 

 

 

 

Because it doesn't last long once it has been cut. And believe me when I say the end result was absolutely delicious.

I am looking forward to keeping you posted on my sessions, and all the new things I am learning. In case you haven't met me yet, my name is Bambara Aven; I also go by Bambie and Bam. I love photography, and can spend whole days photographing, editing, and looking at photos (thank God for summer break). My day job is teaching middle schoolers Physical Science & Georgia Studies in North Georgia. I am an animal lover, and I am sure my furry children will work their way onto this website. I have a loving husband, Corbin, and a son, Nathaniel.

Sometimes people ask me, "How long have you been doing photography?", and I don't really know how to answer. I have boxes of pictures from my middle and high school days (I went through lots of film). I've been shooting portraits since 2007, but I'd have to say it's only been in the past five years that I have REALLY been focusing on creating beautiful photos. I have a day job that allows me to do photography during labs and outdoor sporting events, and that has really helped me improve my skills. 

 

**Update: Here we are in 2022 and this website has grown into a time machine for me and my community. My focus is now on posed and action sports photography, but you'll see I still take a few high school seniors, school events, and family photos on as requested by my clients.
